Laser Vision Correction - IntraLase® Method
The IntraLase® Method for vision correction was developed to advance the first phase of laser eye surgery: the creation of a corneal flap. IntraLase® is 100% blade-free! Before this method was developed, the corneal flap was created with a hand-held steel blade called a microkeratome, which also produced excellent results. However, the blade-free IntraLase® Method reduces the risk of complications that can occur during this phase of the laser vision correction surgery. Dr. Skouras and his staff are committed to researching the best technology for their patients and that's why they chose the IntraLase method for their patients vision correction needs.
How does IntraLase® work?
A computer-guided laser delivers rapid pulses of light to a pre-determined depth and position in your cornea. With each pulse, a microscopic bubble is formed. As the laser continues to deliver pulses back and forth across the eye, these bubbles connect to form a corneal flap. Dr. Skouras can then lift the flap where the bubbles have created a smooth surface.

Benefits
- You can reap the rewards of the most advanced technology in laser eye surgery.
- The surgeon does not need to use a blade at all, which lowers your risk of a flap complication.
- If there are flap complications, the surgeon only needs to wait an hour before attempting the procedure again.
- As a result of IntraLase®, the surface of your eye will be extremely smooth and better prepared for laser treatment, ensuring an excellent outcome for you and your vision.
- The IntraLase® Method creates smoother, thinner corneal flaps, which increases the chances of laser eye surgery eligibility for those with steep, flat, or thin corneas.
- IntraLase produces flap depth that is uniform, rather than thinner in the middle, like a microkeratome-created flap.
- The IntraLase method utilizes a computerized laser rather than a hand-held machine.
- There are fewer reported corneal abrasions with IntraLase-created corneal flaps.
If you've been told before that your corneas were too thin for LASIK, let us reevaluate you during a free laser vision correction consultation. Sometimes, patients who were not candidates before are candidates now with the IntraLase method. Call or email Skouras Eye Centre today!
